4 death-row convicts acquitted

DHAKA: The High Court on Thursday acquitted four death-row convicts in sensational eight Chhatra League men murder case in Bahaddarhat of Chittagong in 2000.

An HC bench comprising Justice Abdul Hye and Krisna Debnath passed the order.

The acquitted are Sazzad Hossain Khan, Alamgir Kabir, Azam and Solaiman.

On July 12, 2000, eight BCL leaders and activists were killed in the port city over establishing supremacy in Government Commercial Institute of Baklia area of the port city.

Later, investigation revealed Islami Chhatra Shibir’s connection with the murders.

On March 27, 2008, a Chittagong court awarded death penalty to four, all of whom were released by the HC order on Thursday, and life term to other three.
