Jamaat leader shot in Satkhira

SATKHIRA: A local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami received bullet injuries in a ‘gunfight’ between Jamaat-Shibir men and police in Matshakati area under Ashashuni upazila of the district early Friday.

The injured is Kabir Ahmed Sarder, 46, President of the party’s Shobanali Union Parishad unit and resident of the upazila.

Police sources said that he was charged in five cases for creating violence in the area. However, police nabbed him from the area on Thursday night.

Later, Police along with Kabir Ahmed conducted a drive to arrest more Jamaat-Shibir activists and recover firearms.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, associates of Kabir fired gunshots at the law enforcers, triggering a gunfight between police and Jamaat-Shibir activists in the area around 4:00am, leaving Kabir Ahmed injured by bullets.

Later, he was rushed to Satkhira Sadar Hospital.
