Khaleda challenges indictment

DHAKA: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has challenged the indictment against her in Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases.

On behalf of Khaleda, her lawyer Advocate Asaduzzaman filed the writ Monday.

On March 19, Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-3 indicted Khaleda Zia, her eldest son, Tarique, and eight others in the Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust corruption cases.

Six people, including Khaleda and Tarique, were indicted in the Zia Orphanage Trust case, for embezzling over Tk 2.1 crore, by forming the fake trust in 1991.

In the other case involving Zia Charitable Trust, the ACC accused four people, including the BNP chief, of raising funds by misusing power of the PMO during 2001-2006.
