21 Jamaat Ameer men sent to jail

DHAKA: A Chittagong court on Tuesday sent 21 Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists, including port city Jamaat Ameer ANM Shamsul Islam and Secretary Nazrul Islam on Tuesday.

The court also fixed May 18 as hearing date on police’s seven-day remand plea of them.

Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Rahmat Ali passed the order.

Earlier in the day, police produced them before the court with a seven-day remand plea.

On the other hand, lawyers of Jamaat leaders plead for bail release of them.

Denying the bail plea, the court sent them to jail.

On Monday (May 12) afternoon, law enforcers arrested 21 Jamaat men from a secret meeting in Dewanbazar area of the city.

Sub-Inspector of Kotwali Thana Imam Hossain filed a case against the nabbed and showed them arrested in that case.
