DHAKA: A chamber court of the Appellate Division Wednesday stayed the bail order in one of a raft of cases against Mahmdudur Rahman, the detained acting editor of the now-defunct daily Amar Desh.
Justice Mozammel Haque passed the order of stay on the bail in the case filed with Tejgaon Thana for one week when the government appealed for the halt.
Besides, the court fixed July 18 for hearing of another case with Kotwali Thana against him.
Earlier on July 12, a High Court Division bench comprising Justice Syed Muhammad Dastogir Hossain and Justice AKM Jahirul Haq granted bail for Mahmud in four cases.
The cases are- obstructing police on duty filed with Katwali and Tejgaon police stations on June 2, Uttara-conspiracy case filed with Airport police station on June 7 and alleged involvement with Hizb-ut Tahrir filed with Uttara police station on April 19.
Barrister Rafiqul Haq moved for Mahmudur Rahman while Attorney-General Mahbube Alam and Additional Attorney-General MK Rahman for the state.
