FENI: Local unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has withdrawn the dawn-to-dusk hartal for Monday at Fulgazi upazila of the district.

The withdrawal came after Awami League leader Zahid Chowdhury, mastermind of the Ekramul killing mission, detained from the district in the evening of the day.

Local BCL unit called the hartal protesting the brutal killing of upazila chairman Ekramul Haque in the morning.

Acting on a tip-off, law enforcers conducted a drive in the area around 6:30pm and arrested Zahid when he was trying to flee riding on a CNG-run auto rickshaw.

Meanwhile, police arrested Abid, Gazi Salam Mahmud, Zahid, Sajal Islam Shipon, Sazzadul Islam Shifat, Chowdhury Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Zahidul Hasan Shourabh and Helal Uddin from Dhaka and Shiblu, son of Counselor Abdullah Mahmud, from Feni district.

They admitted that Zahid Chowdhury collected the pistols and supplied them, Shiplu gave training to run the arms and Abid shot the upazila chairman.

On 20 May, Fulgazi Upazila Chairman Ekramul Haque was shot and burnt to death by miscreants.

Three others, who were on the vehicle, were also critically burnt in the incident that took place in front of Bilash Cinema Hall in Academy area of the district.
