DHAKA: The High Court on Thursday asked the Detective Branch of Police to follow the Supreme Court guidelines while treating the Jamaat-e-Islami leaders during remand.
The SC guideline asks police to behave gentle with the accused and give opportunity to take advice from doctors and lawyers. It also asks police to interrogate in a room having transparent glass.
A HC bench of Justice Dostagir Hossain and Justice AKM Zahirul Haque issued the order following a petition filed by Barrister Abdur Razzak on behalf of the Jamaat-e-Islami leaders.
Jamaat trio Ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami, Secretary-General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid and Nayab-e-Ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee will face three days remand each in sedition case from Friday.
A Dhaka court on June 30 placed the Jamaat leaders on remand for interrogation in the sedition case filed with the Uttara Police Station.
They were arrested on June 29 on charge of hurting Muslim religious sentiments.
