PM blames developed countries for global warming Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said Bangladesh is not responsible for creating global warming and climate change rather it is facing enormous problems due to environment pollution.

The premier made the observation while addressing the inaugural ceremony of World Environment Day-2014 and the National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on Thursday. 

The premier urged the developed counties who are responsible for global warming and environment pollution to take necessary measures in this regard. 

United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) fixed the slogan of this year environment day as ‘raise your voice, not the sea level’.    

Sheikh Hasina also urged the every people to plant three trees to make balance in the environment.   

Forewarning the encroachers and occupiers of land, marsh and wetland, the prime minister said every people will have to stop set up illegal infrastructures in the wetland. 

This year environment award went to television personality Hanif Sangket, Jahangirnagar University Professor Dr Khabir Uddin and Rural Services Foundation for their contribution in the environment sector.     

The World Environment Day 2014 is being observed across the globe and elsewhere in the country on Thursday.

The Day is celebrated every year on June 5 to raise global awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and the planet earth.
