JP to pay penalty

DHAKA: Opposition Jatiya Party (JP) has to pay fine as it did not submit their electoral cost in 10th national polls to the Election Commission (EC) within the time-limit.

The party will get additional 15 days for submitting the details of the cost and securing their registration by paying the penalty.

Senior Assistant Secretary of EC Farhad Hossain Tuesday composed a draft letter which will be issued to Jatiya Party officially on Wednesday in this regard.

According to RPO, all the parties must submit their details of electoral cost within 90 days of the elections to the EC.

If any party fails to submit the cost details in due time it would get additional 30 days from EC. But, after the expiry of that period the party has to pay Tk 10 thousands as penalty for next 15 days.

After the period, EC can cancel the registration of the party.

On May 4, EC warned Jatiya Party giving one month’s notice.

However, 12 parties took part in the 10th national polls where all except JP submitted their details of electoral cost.
