Calling minister madcap: Fakhrul sued and summoned

DHAKA: A Dhaka court Sunday issued summons upon BNP senior joint-secretary-general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir asking him to appear before it on November 11 in a defamation case filed earlier in the day for allegedly casting aspersions on a minister.

Metropolitan Magistrate AKM Emdadul Haque passed the order after hearing the case filed against him for allegedly calling state minister for law Advocate Qamrul Islam ‘mad’ in the wake of the latter’s flurry of rabble-rousing comments.

Founder-president of Bangabandhu Foundation Advocate Abdul Malek alias Moshiur Malek filed the case in the morning.

As per the case statement, Fakhrul Islam dubbed Qamrul Islam ‘mentally sick’ and ‘mad’ at a discussion organised by Zia Parishad at the National Press Club on July 14.

In the case, six persons have been made witnesses, including state minister Islam.
