‘Don’t make country unstable after Eid’

DHAKA: Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Monday asked BNP leaders not to make the situation unstable after Eid-ul-Fitre for the sake of the country’s economy.

The senior leader of ruling Awami League made the plea while addressing programme of fellowship giving ceremony at Bangladesh Garments Manufactures and Exporters Association (BGMEA) building in city in the afternoon.

He said BNP threatened for tougher movement after Eid that would bring terrible situation in the country.

Tofail also observed that hartal and blockade only harm the country. “If you want betterment of Bangladesh, we should avoid these types of movement,” he said.

The minister said some people are conspiring with the readymade garments sector of the country.

He also said, “When the government is trying to uphold the image of the sector some people sent letter to America remarking negative things related to this sector.”

Regarding the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), the minister said GSP pre-conditions to regain opportunity are about to be fulfilled. Within a short time it will come true, he said.

Addressing the function, BGMEA President Atiqul Islam said the businesspeople don’t want politics, they want peace.
