DHAKA: BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has categorically said the name of Awami League (AL) leader Sheikh Hasina, also Prime Minister of the country, would be written in the list of autocrats of the world.

Fakhrul made the assertion while delivering his speech as chief guest in a seminar titled ‘Bangladesh 2009-2014: Where No Right to Life’ organized by ‘G-9’ in a city hotel in the city on Monday afternoon.

He said, “AL established autocracy in a different way through kidnapping, murdering and repressing the people. Countrymen want demise of the incumbent government.”

Regarding the comment of HT Imam, Adviser to Prime Minister, that ‘extra-judicial killing in not an important matter’ Alamgir said they can kill anybody in anytime.

He also said, “Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani founded Awami League and today is their 65th anniversary. We have seen them, in the past, fighting for democracy. But there is no difference between post 1971 AL and latest AL. They just want to be in power.”

Fakhrul urged countrymen to stage demonstration jointly for the sake of the country and democracy.

Maruf Kamal Khan, press secretary to BNP Chairperson, presented the keynote paper in the program.

With G-9 president M Asaduzzaman in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by BNP chairperson’s adviser Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, prominent journalist Shafiq Rehman and former secretary of G-9 Saiful Islam.
