DHAKA: The Supreme Court Monday upheld a High Court order granting bail to Mahmudur Rahman, the detained acting editor of the daily Amar Desh, in two cases filed with different police stations.
Chamber Judge Justice SK Sinha of the Appellate Division passed the orders following the submission of police reports in those cases.
A High Court bench comprising Justices Mohammad Dastagir Hossain and Justice AKM Jahirul Haq granted him bail on July 12 in the two cases. The court in its order had allowed Rahman to be on bail until the police report was filed.
One of the cases was filed with Uttara thana accusing him of having link with Hizb-ut-Tahrir on April 19 and another with Airport thana on charge of hatching “anti-state conspiracy” on June 7.
Barrister Rafiqul Haq stood for the defendant while Attorney- General Mahbube Alam for the state side during the hearing.
