DHAKA: Ruling Awami League is planning and preparing to tackle BNP movement for ousting the government, to be begun after Eid-Ul-Fitr, said the party leaders.

They also said AL would also take party programs to face off its rival political alliance politically.

On July 7, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia declared that her party would stage countrywide mass demonstration against incumbent Awami League-led government after Eid-ul-Fitr.

Will BNP’s movement ever be effective? Or will its leaders and activists take to streets? Banglanews asked Health minister Mohammad Nasim, also AL presidium member and AL-led 14-party alliance spokesperson.

“No benefit come waging movement against an elected government and it will not do so; in the past, movement was launched against the elected government too, our movement reached at peak against BNP government in 2001,” Nasim told banglanews.

The senior AL leader went on saying, “But, they (BNP) did not give up the power till expiry of their tenure; and, no benefit will come staging movement against an elected government this time too.”

AL Dhaka city unit secretary general Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya spoke in a different tone. “BNP said they would go for movement, AL is also prepared, we will form new committee at every thana and ward after Eid-ul-Fitr to strengthen the party activities,” he said

Maya also warned BNP of facing dire consequence during their movement.

Food Minister, also Dhaka City Awami League joint general secretary, Advocate Quamrul Islam said, “Conditions of BNP will be worsen more and if they create anarchy in the name of movement, then the outcome will be horrific.”

“Government has no plan to bar in democratic, political and peaceful movement,” added Quamrul.

AL publicity secretary Hasan Mahmud told banglanews, “BNP has issued such threats (of movement) for many times, no outcome came, they (BNP) said they will move (against government) after Eid, I want to know, which one of the Eids? There is Eid after (this) Eid too.”

“Zero tolerance will be shown, if anarchy is carried out, law enforcing agencies will face them, AL will also face them politically” added Hasan.
