DHAKA: BNP vice-chairman Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed on Saturday opined that there was no need of Indian High Commission in Bangladesh as the number of brokers of India increased significantly.

“The number of brokers of India has risen in the country so much that it is no longer necessary to have Indian High Commission here,” he said.

The BNP leader made the observation while addressing a discussion meeting titled ‘Maritime Boundary of Bangladesh: Propaganda from Myanmar to India and Reality’, organized by Liberty Bangladesh at the National Press Club.

He also said that the verdict of maritime boundary reflects the wish of India and Bangladesh has lost their rights over maritime boundary.

The former water resources minister also said the verdict against India is a little bit better than the verdict against Myanmar as Bangladesh got 10 gas blocks.

With Professor Emajuddin Ahamed in the chair, the function was addressed, among others, by maritime specialist Captain M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, Chairman of Department of Water Resources Engineering (WRE) of BUET Professor Dr M Sabbir Mostafa Khan and former DG of Coastguard Shafiqur Rahman.
