SIRAJGANJ: A local Awami League leader was hacked to death by rival group in Tarash upazila of the district on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Altaf Hossain, 50, hailed from Jahangirnagar village of Madhainagar union.

Police said that centering a dispute over public pond occupying miscreants chopped Altaf Hossain around 9:30pm, leaving him critically injured.

Later, he was rushed to Tarash Upazila Health Complex and then shifted to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra.

But, he died while being taken to Dhaka for better treatment around 9:30am.

Following the incident, police detained a man named Jahidul Islam.
