PM declines collaboration with Jamaat

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina refused the allegation of secret collaboration of the government and her party with Jamaat-e-Islami.

“Awami League works for the nation, doesn’t do politics of collaboration. Awami League has nothing to get from Jamaat,” she said.

The premier made the assertion in response to some queries from reporters in a press conference held at Gana bhaban On Saturday noon.

The ruling Awami League president said, “BNP handed the national flag to Jamaat, but we arrested and even punished many of them for their wartime crimes. I have nothing to lose.” 

Earlier, in her written statement she expressed her firm commitment in establishing Bangladesh as a democratic nation.

To highlight the different aspects of her recent London tour, Sheikh Hasina said, “A bilateral relation has been developed between the nations during her UK tour. I think, the tour become successful and fruitful in economic and social development sector of the country."

On July 21, Prime Minister Sheik Hasina visited London to attend the maiden World Girl Summit accepting British Prime Minister David Cameron's invitation. This was Prime Minister's 1st tour to Europe after the 5th January election.

Apart from attending high level sessions Sheikh Hasina also had bilateral talks with the British Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street, and also with several government and opposition party leaders.
