BNP leaders’ Eid: Dhaka-abroad-prison

DHAKA: While some BNP leaders will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr in Dhaka, some in their constituencies and some in both places. Some BNP leaders, including Tarique Rahman, however will pass the Eid day abroad and some inside the prison.

The BNP leaders and their close aides admit that there is no possibility of an immediate election, but as in the past they will pass this Eid day more or less in mass contacts be it in their village homes or in Dhaka residences.

The aides informed that the politicians already sent gift items to influential people in and outside the party forum in their localities as well as food items and clothes to the poor people of their constituencies.

The leaders ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr also made contributions to local mosques, madrassas and social organizations.

Eid in Dhaka

Like previous years, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will celebrate the Eid in Dhaka. She will exchange greetings with party leaders and activists as well as people from all walks at Bangabandhu International Conference Center.

She had a get-together with her family members while performing holy Umrah in Saudi Arabia this week. After the Umrah, her son Tarique Rahman went back to London while Khaleda returned to Dhaka.

As she will have a greetings exchange program in Dhaka on the Eid day, many BNP leaders will also stay in the capital and join the function.

BNP’s Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is among them. Since he got the responsibilities of the Acting Secretary General, he stayed in Dhaka during all the Eid days in the past few years.

He informed the Banglanews that he will offer the Eid prayers at Uttara Jame Mosque and then join Chairperson’s program.

He will also have some time for his family on the Eid Day.

Alamgir is yet to fix a date to visit his constituency in Thakurgaon.

Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Standing Committee Member of the BNP, informed that he would stay in Dhaka on the Eid day and will attend the Eid prayers at Gulshan Azad Mosque.

After joining Khaleda Zia’s program, Moudud will be staying at his house to welcome guests. The following day he will go to his constituency in Noakhali.

Mirza Abbas, the newly appointed Convener of Dhaka City BNP, will also be in Dhaka as in the yesteryears.

“I’m a man of Dhaka... Many people also come to see me on the Eid day, so I’ll be at my home in Dhaka,” he said adding after offering the Eid prayers he will join Begum Zia’s greetings exchange program.

The list also included Standing Committee Members MK Anwar, Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mian, Dr. RA Ghani, Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman and Nazrul Islam Khan.

Brig Gen (retd) ASM Hannan Shah however will pass the Eid day both in Dhaka and his village home in Gazipur.

Eid outside Dhaka

Standing Committee Member Tariqul Islam is among the BNP leaders who will celebrate the Eid at their village homes outside Dhaka.

The list also included Abdullah Al Noman, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Altaf Hossain Chowdhury and Selima Rahman.

Eid outside country

Like past few years, Tarique Rahman will pass this Eid day in London. He will celebrate the Eid along with his family.

Sadek Hossain Khoka, who lost the Dhaka city BNP’s leadership recently, is now in USA and he will celebrate the Eid over there.

Eid in jail

Some BNP leaders however will have to be in jail on the Eid day.

They included Dr. Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain, Salahuddin Qader Chowdhury, Lutfozzaman Babar, Abdus Salam Pintu and Nasiruddin Pintu.

Dr. Mosharraf’s family members said that they tried their level best for his release on bail but in vain.

Also many local leaders of the BNP are in prison and they have to celebrate the Eid day in prison and have to be happy only to meet the near and dear ones at the jail gate.
