Ershad’s anti-govt move ‘double-standard’

CHITTAGONG: Being a part of the government, the anti-government movement of Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad, also former military ruler, is ‘double standard’.

Communications Minister Obaidul Quader commented Sunday at Agrabad in the port city while addressing a road-show campaign on creating mass awareness in reducing road accidents.

The ruling Aawmi League lawmaker said opposition party has the rights to wage movements against the government. “But being a part of the government, Ershad cannot hint to anti-government movements,” he said.

He should leave ‘double-standard’ mentality, the minister added.

Welcoming Ershad’s decision to stage anti-government movement, Obaidul Quader said but Jatiya Party has ministers in the cabinet and they are parts of the government.

Earlier on Saturday, while meeting his party leaders from Shariatpur, HM Ershad commented that the incumbent Sheikh Hasina government failed to rule the country.

Also the prime minister’s special envoy, Ershad, from his Banani party office, declared on the day staging anti-government movements.

The communications minister told media that if BNP create violence then the government will take action.

But if they take a non-violent position, then government will be non-violent, he added.
