AL man killed in bomb attack

CHAPAINAWABGANJ: A local activist of Awami League was killed and a leader sustained injuries in a bomb attack by masked-men in Pourashava area of Shibganj upazila of the district on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Ataur Rahman Polen, brother of Pourashava AL unit president Niyamat Ali, while the injured was Abul Kalam Azad, general secretary of Pourashava Juba League unit.

Locals said that a gang of masked miscreants all of sudden attacked the shop, owned by Azad, at Sheikh Tola intersection of the area at 10:00pm on the day, and chased Polen and hurled bombs targeting him there.

Polen died on the spot as bombs hit on the right side of the chest. They also caught Azad, hit him on his head, leaving him injured critically.

Confirming the matter to banglanews, Shibganj Thana Officer-In-Charge Ashikur Rahman said, “On information, police visited the spot, but the motives behind the attack could not be known primarily.”
