20 Jamaat leaders remanded

DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Sunday placed 20 leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, including former president of Shibir Dr Shafiqul Islam Masud, on four-day remand.

Metropolitan Magistrate Ataul Haque passed the order after the hearing when Sub-inspector Saiful Islam of Mohammadpur Thana for produced them before the court with 10 days remand.

The accused leaders were arrested for a residence of Jakir Hossain Road in Mohammadpur on Saturday night.

Later, police filed a case against them with special power act.

In the meantime, Chhatra Shibir leaders and activists brought out procession protesting the arrest and remand.
