RAJSHAHI:  Unidentified terrorists slaughtered a local Chhatra Dal leader at Maipara bazar in Puthia upazila on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Nuh Alam, 28, publicity secretary of Baneswar Union unit of the pro-BNP student organization.

Quoting witnesses, Puthia Thana OC Ziaul Islam said, “Nuh Alam came under attack at about 10pm while gossiping with his friends at the bazar. The gang slaughtered Nuh Alam in front of the shoppers and fled the scene.”

Enraged by the killing, a mob put up barricades on the Rajshahi–Dhaka Highway and vandalized two buses and an ambulance.

At about 00:30am police rushed in and recovered the body.

Family sources said assailants also had slaughtered Nuh Alam’s father, Daud Ali, on January 29 last year. Following his father’s killing, Nuh Alam filed a murder case with Puthia Thana.

Police suspected Nuh Alam might have been killed in a sequel to the filing of that case.

OC Ziaul Islam said police hunt was on to arrest the killers.
