DHAKA: International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) indicted former Jatiya Party (JP) lawmaker Abdul Jabbar for crimes against humanity during Liberation War in 1971.

ICT-1 passed the order Thursday bringing five war crimes charges including killing, mass killing, looting and forced conversion.

Jabbar was chairman of Mathbaria Peace Committee in Pirojpur in 1971 and played a key role in the formation of the Razakar Bhahini.

The 80-year-old former Pirojpur Mathbarhia MP is currently living in the US.

Earlier on May 11, state prosecution submitted formal charge against former Jatiya Party lawmaker Abdul Jabbar for crimes against humanity allegedly committed during the country's 1971 War of Liberation.

In the formal charge submitted to International Crimes Tribunal-1, the prosecution brought five charges of wartime crimes against him.

99-page investigation report, 6-eposode case diary, report with image, video tilled ‘Ekattorer Ghatokera’ have been added with the formal charge.

Prosecution sources said Investigation Agency found evidence of five charges of wartime crimes against the former Jatiya Party lawmaker.

The five charges include murder, genocide, loot and arson, forced conversion of religion.

On April 29, the Investigation Agency submitted the final report to the prosecution of International Crimes Tribunal.

46 people were made witness against the 82-year-old Jatiya Party leader. 

The investigators have completed their nearly one-year-long investigation on the role of Jabbar during the country’s war of independence on April 27.

According to the investigation agency, Jabbar and his men killed as many as 11 Hindus and injured many others at village Nandigram on May 22, 1971. He forcefully converted 200 Hindus to Islam in a day in the last week of May, 1971.
