BARISAL: Police, in a drive, detained 20 Jamaat men, including its district unit Ameer and Nayeb-e-Ameer, from a building in South Alekanda area of the district on Thursday night.

The detainees are- Barisal Metropolitan Jamaat Ameer Advocate Muyazzem Hossain Helal, Nayeb-e-Ameer Bazlur Rahman, Metropolitan Jamaat Secretary Jahir Uddin Mohammad Babar, Assistant Jamaat Secretary Moulana Matiur Rahman, Jamaat activist Shah Alam, Madrasa teacher Abdur Rauf, Moazzem Hossain Hawladar, Mahbub Rahman, Mizanur Rahman, Saiful Islam, Shafiulla Talukdar, Rassel, Ismail Hossain, Abul Kalam, Abul Kasem, Shamim Kabir, Shahjahan Siraj, Abdus Sattar and Rafiqul Islam.

Meanwhile, some 21 mobile phones and huge cash money were seized from them.

Barisal Kotwali Thana Officer-in-Charge Shakhawat Hossain told banglanews that acting on a tip off that district Jamaat leaders are holding in a clandestine meeting at the second floor of a building in the area around 10:00pm.

And then police conducted drive there and detained them on the charge planning subversive activities ahead of national mourning day, he added.

A case will be filed in this connection, he added.
