Democracy, dev can’t go together: Hanif

DHAKA: Ruling Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said not a single country could prosper through the way of democracy.

He made the remark while addressing a seminar at city’s Water Development Board auditorium on Friday noon arranged by its Sramik Kormachari League.

The seminar was arranged to commemorate the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at his 39th death anniversary.

Hanif said there that to ensure the prosperity of the nation there is need of good governance and perfect leadership.

“Actually Democracy, development can’t go together,” he added.

At that time he also mentioned the example of China, Malaysia and Singapore.

Terming Ziaur Rahman ‘killer of Bangabandhu’, the AL lawmaker also said he (Zia) was informed about the conspiracy of August 15 assassination. He patronized the killing and her wife Khaleda Zia celebrates birthday on that day from 1996.

Hanif alleged that Zia implemented agenda of Pakistan in Bangladesh after the killing of Bangabandhu and now his wife, party and sons are continuing this.

The Awami lawmaker also urged to uproot the BNP as poison of BNP-led 20 parties are spreading across the country.

He, however, also said that some of the leftists, who are now use to praising the Father of the Nation and Awami League, also involved in provocation of killing Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
