DHAKA: BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said ruling Awami League is grabbing the authority to impeach judges rather than giving the right to the Jatiya Sangsad.
“The parliament is being given the authority to impeach judges but the incumbent parliament does not represent people. This authority will ultimately be grabbed by AL,” he said.
The spokesperson for the party made the allegations while addressing a discussion meeting titled ‘National Broadcast Policy, Impeachment of Justices and Ongoing Political Situation’, organized by the National People’s Party (NPP) at the National Press Club.
He also said, “The Supreme Court is our last destination but the parliament is taking its authoritative power.”
The spokesperson of the party also said that the government has composed National Broadcast Policy to control the media.
BNP leader asked the government to declare date of general election.
National Democratic Party (NDP) President Khandaker Golam Mortuza, Labour Party president Dr Mostafizur Rahman Iran, Jatiya Gonotantrik Party (JAGPA) secretary general Lutfor Rahman and NPP secretary general Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa also spoke.
NPP President Dr Fariduzzaman Farhad presided over the discussion meeting.
