DHAKA: BNP Dhaka City unit has declared to hold a rally at the National Press Club on Wednesday protesting the government’s move to restore parliament’s power to impeach Supreme Court judges.
Besides, the party will also stage a human chain marking the ‘International Day of the Disappeared’ that falls on August 30.
The party convener Mirza Abbas confirmed the matter at a press briefing after holding a meeting at BNP headquarters in city’s Naya Paltan area.
The BNP leader said that initially they selected 15 places for protest rally. But they did not get police permission.
Now, it will be held only at the National Press Club auditorium after getting permission, he added.
He also said that another program will be held on August 31, at city’s Institution of Engineers on the occasion of BNP’s founding anniversary.
BNP Dhaka city unit will hold more programs shortly, he added.
Mirza Abbas said the government has indicted opposition party leaders and activists on charges of false cases.
This can be normal for this fascist government but abnormal for practicing fair politics, he added.
There is no way out of this situation without staging demonstration, he commented.
He also said that the process of formation of Dhaka city unit convener committee in ward and thana levels is underway.
Scores of party’s senior leaders were also present at the meeting.
