DHAKA: Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury left for Japan on Thursday on five-day visit at invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Jatiya Sangsad senior secretary M Ashraful Mokbul and other higher officers saw off her at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Parliament secretariat sources said the speaker would attend a seminar titled ‘World Assembly for Women Tokyo 2014’ to be held on September 12-14 in the Japanese capital Tokyo.

She will also meet Japan’s parliament members of House of Counselor and House of Representatives.

The speaker is scheduled to return home on September 16.
