DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Tuesday said her party did not grab anyone’s property like ruling Awami League.

“The BNP did not grab land property of anyone but Awami League has grabbed and also attacked on the religious institutions,” she said.

The former premier came up with the assertion a greeting exchange program with the members of the country’s Hindu community at city’s Institution of Engineers auditorium on Tuesday evening.

She also claimed that BNP has cooperated religious communities and also worked for the interest of religious institutions including of the Hindus when it was in power.

She further said that ruling Awami League has grabbed the property of the Hindu communities.

BNP did do this, she added, BNP wants to maintain friendly relations with all.

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia exchanged greetings with the members of the country’s Hindu community on Tuesday.

The function was held at city’s Institution of Engineers auditorium in the evening.

Confirming the matter to banglanews, BNP chairperson media wing member Shayrul Kabir Khan said that members of the Hindu community, earlier, started to gather at the place from 2:30pm.

“Khaleda Zia arrived there around 5:00pm and started to exchange post-puja greetings later,” he added.

According to the BNP chairperson media wing member, the Hindu community members were invited to attend the program earlier on Monday.

However, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir had accompanied Khaleda Zia at the program.

BNP vice-chairperson Selima Rahman, Dhaka city committee member secretary Habib-Un Nabi Khan Sohel, former state minister Gautam Chakraborty and BNP standing committee members MK Anwar, Dr Moin Khan, Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia and Brig Gen (Rtd) ASM Hannan Shah, among others, were present.

Nevertheless, the five-day Durga Puja, the biggest festival of the Hindu community, ended on October 4.
