PM warns of stern actions

DHAKA: Indicating anti-government movement of BNP, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said none would be spared if they make any harm of the country’s people.

The premier, also ruling Awami League president, came up with the forewarning in response to a question of a journalist at a press conference at Gono Bhaban.

She said, “We have talked to chiefs of the governments of different countries over climate change, immigration, MDGs and overall development of Asia.”

Sheikh Hasina added: “We also talked about militancy. I said militants do not have religion and boundary. I have called upon the world leaders not to sell arms to the militants.”

The premier also added: “We expressed firm determination to free the country of militant, communalism and war criminals.”

In response to another query, she said, “Different states and their leaders did not raise any question on January 5 election, rather congratulated me for being elected again.”

She also expressed determination to build a happy and prosperous Bangladesh by 2041.

Hasina also urged to establish a strong partnership between Asia and Europe in Economic and communications sector.

Terming late president Ziaur Rahman and BNP chief Khaleda Zia killers, she again rejected the chance of holding any talks with the party over next general election under a non-party administration.

She claimed Zia was involved in the murder of Bangabandhu on August 15, 1975, Khaleda was involved with the August 21, 2004 grenade attack that killed at least 22 Awami League leaders and activists.

She put a counter question: “Why are you pressing us to sit with the people who wanted to kill me?”

On October 15, the premier went to Italy a 118-member entourage and attended the 10th ASEM. She returned home on October 18 after wrapping up her 4-day visit.

In the visit, she met PM of Italy Matteo Renzi, PM of Greece Antonis Samaras, PM of Sweden Stephen Lofven and Dutch PM Mark Rutte.

Hasina also met with Russian president Vladimir Putin, Japan’s PM Shinzō Abe and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in a dinner party thrown by president of the host country.

The premier attended a reception ceremony organized by the Bangladeshi Community live in Italy.
