JU expels 23 students over BCL clash

JAHANGIANAGAR UNIVERSITY (JU): The Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities on Saturday expelled 23 students for different terms over the clash between two groups of Chhatra League at Maulana Bhasani Hall of the university.

The decision came from a syndicate meeting presided over by the JU Vice Chancellor Dr Farzana Islam, following a report by a five-member probe body headed by Professor Rasheda Akhter of Anthropology Department.

Registrar of the university Abu Bakar Siddique, also Syndicate Secretary, said five students were expelled permanently while seven students for two years, three students for one year and the others were expelled for different terms.

Several leaders and activists were injured as the followers of the general secretary of Maulana Bhasani Hall unit Chhatra League Aninda Baroi and the followers of president locked into a clash on August 20.

The university authority formed the investigation committee on August 22.
