GAIBANDHA: Miscreants chopped a leader of ruling Awami League (AL) to death in Koilatikar area of Gobindaganj upazila of the district.

Victim Rabiul Islam, 45, was general secretary of Kamdia union parishad ward no- 8 unit Awami League.

Police said some miscreants hacked Rabiul randomly around 10:00pm Sunday while he was returning home from Ghoraghat Bazar, leaving him critically injured.

Later, he was rushed to the Rangpur Medical College and Hospital where Rabiul succumbed to his injuries early Monday.

Officer in-charge (OC) Zahidul Islam of Gobindaganj Thana told banglanews that police initially suspect that he might have been murdered following previous enmity.
