Fakhrul, 45 others charge hearing Dec 31

DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Monday deferred till December 31 the hearing of charge framing against BNP acting general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and 45 leaders of 18-party alliance in vehicle torching case.

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court's Magistrate Ataul Haque passed the deferment order in reply to an appeal by defense lawyer seeking time.

Defence lawyer Advocate Joynul Abedin Mejbah said they sought time as the hearing on appeal challenging the trial procedures of the case is pending in the High Court.

On May 10, 2012, Inspector Nurul Amin of Detective Branch of Police submitted charge-sheet under section 4 and 5 of speedy trial tribunal and made 18 people witnesses of the case. 

Earlier, a case was filed with Tejgaon Police Station against BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam and other leaders in connection with the vehicle torching case during hartal on April 29, 2012.
