BNP seeks permission for Nov 7 rally

DHAKA: Opposition BNP again sought permission to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) for holding a mass rally at Suhrawardy Udyan to observe ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’ on November 7.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is scheduled to be present in the rally as chief guest.

A application was sent to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner’s office requesting permission to hold the rally, said BNP assistant office secretary Asadul Karim Shaheen.

On this day in 1975, soldiers and civilians unitedly freed the then chief of army staff Ziaur Rahman from captivity in Dhaka cantonment, paving the way for Zia to come to power.

From then November 7 was celebrated as the National Revolution and Solidarity Day.

BNP and its associate organizations draw up elaborate programs to mark the day every year.
