DHAKA: Bangladesh holds its head high as a ‘highly respected member’ of the world community for the achievement of incumbent government, said Sazeeb Wajed Joy on Tuesday.

Joy, the son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said different countries and nations have come up with “tremendous recognition’ to Bangladesh recently for the government’s successes.

Joy made the remarks by posting a status in his Facebook official page in the morning.

Joy said that, in the past two weeks, Bangladesh was elected to as a member of United Nations Human Rights Council and re-elected to the administrative council of the International Telecommunication Union.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury was elected as the Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and lawmaker Saber Hossain Chowdhury was elected as the president of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, he added.

Joy said, “In all of these successes we were voted in by a majority of countries around the world. This is a tremendous recognition of our standing and popularity in the world.”

“This recognition and popularity has come about because of all the hard work and successes of our Awami League Government and our members, lawmakers, ministers and government officials,” he added.

Joy said, “What makes this past two weeks even more special is that the most infamous war criminal Ghulam Azam died in prison.”

“It was more than he deserved, but justice has been served,” he added
