Latif to be arrested soon after return

DHAKA: State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Tuesday said former posts, telecommunications and information technology minister Abdul Latif Siddique would be arrested soon after he returns home.

The home minister was talking to journalists at the secretariat in the city and made the assertion in response to a question in this regard.

He said, “Arrest warrant has been issued against Latif Siddique and we will take actions in line with the arrest order.”

Different courts of the country separately issued arrest warrants against Latif in the cases filed over his derogatory remarks.

Latif, a former Awami League presidium member, made derogatory remarks over hajj, Tabligh Jamaat and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy at a program in New York City.

His remarks drew flak across the country. Later, Laif was removed from the cabinet and the party.
