RAJSHAHI: Police detained Rajshahi city Jamaat Ameer Maolana Ataur Rahman among 26 early Thursday on charges of planning sabotage in hartal.

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge of Motihar Thana Alamgir Hossain said, “We had information that Ataur Rahman and five others were planning to conduct subversive acts in hartal.” 

Besides, Ataur Rahman is on bail in a case filed after detaining him with cocktails and jihadi books from capital Dhaka.

Police also detained 20 others Jamaat-Shibir activists raiding different areas of Rajshahi metropolitan city.

Jamaat has enforced day long hartal from the morning protesting verdict of International Crimes Tribunal that sentenced party’s Ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami to death.

Earlier on Wednesday, the first ICT of Bangladesh awarded death sentence to Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami in four charges for leading the execution of intellectuals, mass killing, rape and loot during the nine months of liberation war.

Later, Jamaat called countrywide 72-hour hartal for Thursday, Sunday and Monday protesting the verdict of International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in the war crimes cases against Nizami.
