Shibir blasts cocktails in city

DHAKA: Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, activists brought out sudden processions, vandalized vehicles and blasted cocktails in city’s Shahjahanpur and Lalbagh areas on Saturday evening.

Sources said that a group of Shibir activists brought out the procession at Shahjahanpur in the evening ahead of their countrywide shutdown for Sunday and Monday.

The pro-hartal activists vandalized some passenger buses and private cars and blasted cocktails, creating panic among the commuters and locals in the area around 6:45pm.

On information, police rushed to the spot but the activists managed to flee the scene.

Officer-in-Charge of Shahjahanpur Thana Mehedi Hasan said, “We have not got any information about this yet.”

On the other hand, some Shibir activists vandalized several vehicles and blasted cocktails in Lalbagh Etimkhana intersection in the evening.

Earlier, on Wednesday the International Crimes Tribunal-1 awarded death penalty to Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami for crimes against humanity during Liberation War in 1971.
