DHAKA: Power supply across country became normal on Saturday midnight after over 12 hours-long outages due to collapses on national grid.

The grid was collapsed at least twice, first at around 12:00 in the noon and secondly in the evening on Saturday.

The whole country faced power outages and went under darkness as the night fell. 

The occurrence happened first time in the country’s history.

The problem was initiated as Bangladesh-India power interconnection line tripped at Bheramara in Kushtia at 11:45 am Saturday, primary information said.

Details will be disclosed at a press briefing at Bidyut Bhaban in city on Sunday around 10:00am. 

Power Development Board (PDB) sources said that some 4,150 megawatts electricity was produced on Sunday around 3:00am, which was equivalent to the demand of that time.  

Earlier on Saturday night, Prime Minister's Power and Energy Adviser Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, while talking with media, said that some 3,819 MW electricity supply has been restored and the situation will be normal soon. 

The power supply is expected to become normal fully by Sunday, he added.
