56 Jamaat men among 183 held in 8 dists

DHAKA: Law enforcers, in several special drives, detained 183 people, including 56 Jamaat-e-Islami activists, from eight districts to prevent anarchy during the 48-hour countrywide hartal.

Police nabbed them from Jessore, Kurigram, Bhola, Satkhira, Feni, Pabna, Noakhali, and Tangail districts sometimes between Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

Banglanews District Correspondent in Jessore reports that police in special drives held 51 people, including nine Jamaat-Shibir men.

District police spokesperson assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Reshma Sharmin confirmed the matter to banglanews. Of the detained, 43 are accused of different cases, the ASP added.

Quoting the district Special Branch Officer-in-Charge police Abdul Hannan, our District Correspondent in Pabna said police arrested 45 people, including 15 Jamaat-Shibir men, on charges of planning sabotage during hartal hours.

Banglanews District Correspondent in Noakhali added that police detained 27 people, including Jamaat-Shibir men, across the district till Sunday morning.

District SP Ilias Sharif confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Our District Correspondent in Kurigram said police arrested 26 people, including five Jamaat-Shibir men, from different parts of the district.

Confirming the matter to banglanews, district superintendent of police Tabarak Ullah said all are accused in different cases.

Banglanews District Correspondent in Satkhira reported that 14 people, including 8 Jamaat-Shibir men, were held across the district.

District additional superintendent of police Syed Modasser Hossain said the district was not affected by the harat and police were on alert.

Our Correspondent in Feni reported that police held 10 Jamaat-Shibr activists from the district.

District police control room confirmed the matter.

Banglanews Correspondent in Bhola said police detained 7 Jamaat-Shibr from different places of the town on charges of planning sabotage during hartal.

District police sources confirmed the matter.

Our District Correspondent in Tangail reported, police detained two Jamaat activists in Kalibari area of Tangail town at 8:00pm Saturday.

However, Jamaat-e-Islami enforced 48-hour hartal protesting its Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami’s death sentence, underway since Sunday 6:00am.
