Union AL president murdered in Magura

MAGURA: A leader of ruling Bangladesh Awami League was murdered in Sreepur on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Pratap Saha, 55, president of Awami League's Kadirparha Union Unit of the upazila.

Pratap’s brother, also the party's central-committee assistant secretary Pankaj Saha told banglanews that his brother was attacked by the miscreants around 9:00pm near his residence at Radhanagar of the upazila.

“Pratap was returning home from market at that time,” Pankaj Saha said adding, “Later locals rushed Pratap to Magura Sadar Hospital and he died there around 10:00pm.”

Confirming the death, hospital’s emergency unit doctor Arun Kumar Ghosh said that Pratap was stabbed in the chest.

“The knife pierced Saha's lungs leading to his death,” he added.

However, the reason behind the murder is yet to be known.

On the other hand, state minister for youth and sports Biren Sikder, Magura Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mahbubor Rahman and the district’s assistant superintend of police (ASP) Sudarshan Kumar Roy have visited the hospital.

Biren Sikder, moreover, ordered police to swiftly arrest the perpetrators at that time.
