4 charges against Taher-Nani for war crimes

DHAKA: Two former Muslim League leaders Obaidul Haque Taher and Ataur Rahman Nani were accused of four charges for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity committed during the country’s war of independence in 1971.

The four charges were mentioned against them after an investigation report of International Crimes Tribunal was revealed in a press conference at ICT investigation office in city’s Dhanmondi area on Wednesday.

The main coordinator of the investigation body Abdul Hannan Khan showed a 63-page investigation report at the conference.

He said that the report will be submitted to the prosecution shortly.

The investigation report stated that they were accused for killing, genocide, abduction and ravage during the war.

Earlier on August 13, Netrokona Sadar Thana Police arrested them from Netrokona following the arrest warrant issued by the tribunal.

In 2010, freedom fighter Ali Reza Kanchon filed a case accusing twelve people include Nani and Obaidul of committing crimes against humanity during the war in 1971.
