AL rival groups lock into clash in city

DHAKA: Two rival groups of ruling Awami League (AL) locked into a clash centering sitting at a rally at city’s Bangabandhu Avenue on Monday afternoon.

Sources said members of 56 Ward Awami League unit (Ramna) and the followers of Elias Uddin Molla of Mirpur locked into the clash.

The rally was arranged in protest against derogatory remarks of Tarique Rahman over Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Later, disaster management and relief minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya along with other senior leaders brought the situation under control, sources added.

AL leaders or activists declined to comment anything about the incident.
