AL infighting hurts 10 in Sherpur

SHERPUR: At least 10 people were injured as two groups of Awami League locked into a clash on Sribordy upazila of the district on Tuesday centering forming AL committee.

Police sources said that supporters of upazila chairman Ashraf Hossain Khoka and Sherpur-3 constituency lawmaker AKM Fazlul Haque Chan were giving agenda and counter-agenda for last several days centering the committee.

Khoka is also convener of newly-formed committee of the upazila AL.

Chan’s men called a protest program on the Shahid Minar premises of the upazila on Tuesday afternoon whereas Khoka’s men also announced to hold program on the same venue.

In the afternoon, both group locked into a clash at the program venue. Police lobbed teargas shells to quell the clash that left 10 people injured.

Two of the injured are Abdulah Saleh, district AL cultural affairs secretary and Shakil, son of the upazila chairman Khoka.

The inured were admitted at Sribordy Upazila Health Complex and the district Sadar Hospital.

Sribordy Thana Officer-In-Charge Belal Hossain said the situation remains normal now.
