Hartal underway in Rangamati

RANGAMATI: A dawn-to-dusk hartal, enforced by Parbatya Jubo Front, a platform of Bangali youths, who are living in hill tracts area, is underway in the district on Thursday.

The strike is being observed demanding the release of three forest officials, kidnapped from Langadu on November 6.

Miscreants abducted them from Karikaba of Kattali in Langadu on last Thursday, locals said.

The victims are identified as the assistant forest conservator of Chittagong Hill Tracts North Forest Division Farid Miah, range officer of Langadu Range Rabiul Hossain and forester Bibartan Chakma.

However, all long route vehicles along with vessels of seven water ways connected with the district have been seen halted here since the beginning of the hartal.

Police have also been deployed at important spots of the city.

The ongoing Junior School Certificate and Junior Dakhil Certificate examinations are out of hartal purview.
