Shibir-police clashes in Bogra: 6 held

BOGRA: The activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student affiliate of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, involved in clashes with police at Station Road area of Bogra town on Saturday morning.

Sources told banglanews that at least six Shibir-men were held over the clashes.

The law enforcers fired rubber bullets when Shibir activists hurled two cocktails targeting the police at the time, sources added.

Confirming the matter, Bogra Sadar Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Fayzur Rahman said police went there after being informed that Shibir activists were planning to bring out a procession in between the place of BRTC Bus Stand and Baitur Rahman Central Jam-e-Masjid.

“The Shibir-men, at that time, hurled two cocktails targeting the police,” he added. “Police opened fire to save themselves”.

After the clashes, police however, recovered a piece of fresh cocktail and detained six Shibir activists.

The detainees were Shaminur Islam Shamim, president of Bogra Government Azizul Haque College Shibir unit along with five Shibir activists Rezaul Karim, Shariful Islam, Kayem Mahmud, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mohammad Matin.
