DHAKA: Investigation officer Helal Uddin, on Sunday, testified against fugitive war crimes accused, also former Member of Parliament Engineer Abdul Jabbar, before the International Crimes Tribunal-1.

The three-member tribunal led by Justice M Enayetur Rahim fixed Monday for cross-examining of defense.

A total of 23 witnesses testified against Abdul Jabbar from last September 7.

The witness of the seizure list is Cataloger of Bangladesh Press Institute (PIB) M Robiul Anam Khan.

The open statement was presented by prosecutor Jahid Imam against the accused on September 7.

On August 14, the tribunal framed charges against the fugitive accused Engineer Abdul Jabbar for his involvement in crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.

The prosecution pressed five war crimes charges against the former Jatiya Party MP.

He was accused for killing 36 people, converting 200 people to Islam forcefully, looting and arson attack on 557 houses of Mathbaria, Pirojpur.

Earlier on July 20, Prosecutor Wrishikesh Shaha made the hearing against Abdul Jabbar. Lawyer Abul Hasan made the hearing on behalf of him.

On May 12, arrest warrant was issued against him. He has been fugitive so the tribunal ordered to continue the trial proceedings.
Earlier, Prosecutor Mohammad Jahid Imam submitted formal charge against Jabbar.

Investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) submitted its 99 pages investigation report along with 1,900 pages of other relevant documents to the chief prosecutor’s office.

After probing, according to the report, investigation agency has found evidences of Abdul Jabbar’s involvement in crimes against humanity committed during the Liberation War in Pirojpur district.
