DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday categorically said the government is conspiring against BNP spreading rumor on party’s senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman.
The BNP leader made the allegation while addressing a program marking Tarique’s 50th birthday organized by Dhaka Bar unit of Bangladesh Nationalist Lawyers Forum at Dhaka Bar Council auditorium.
He said, “The Awami League government is spreading rumor fearing the popularity of Tarique Rahman.”
The government forced him to leave the country by filing several fake cases, he added.
Claiming that there is no rule of law in the country, he said, “It has become a police state.”
Fakhrul urged the BNP leaders and activists to be prepared for tougher movements to oust the government.
BNP mass education affairs secretaries Advocate Sanaullah Mia, pro-BNP lawyers Lutfe Alam and Mosleh Uddim Jasim, among others, were present at the program chaired by Bangladesh Nationalist Lawyers Forum president Mohsin Mia.
