Santu Larma threatens non-coop movement

DHAKA: Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) Chairman threatened to start a non-cooperation movement from May 1 next year if the government does not take any effective measures to implement the roadmap of the CHT peace accord by this time.

“We will enforce non-cooperation movement from May 1 and the framework of the non-cooperation movement will depend on time and situation,” he said.

Jyotirindria Bodhipriya Larma popularly known as Santu Larma was addressing a press conference at a city hotel on Saturday.

Santu Larma also said, “Seventeen years have passed after signing of the deal. But I can’t remember when the last meeting regarding the peace accord was held.”

The PCJSS must prevent if the government takes any step against the indigenous people (Jumma) during implementation of the accord’s road map, he added.

He also leader alleged that the government has been giving false assurance to the indigenous people.

Santu Larma also said, “The government has been making propaganda and delivering false information keeping the fundamental issues of the treaty unimplemented.”

On December 2, 1997, the then Awami League government and PCJSS signed the peace treaty, which recognizes the rights of the ethnic communities of Chittagong Hill Tracts.
