DHAKA: A Dhaka Court on Sunday started the trial against the recently sacked minister Abdul Latif Siddique for his derogatory comments hurting religious sentiment, and fixed December 7 for charge framing hearing against him.
Chief metropolitan magistrate Bikash Kumar Saha transferred the case to metropolitan magistrate Ashaduzzaman Nur’s court in the morning.
Earlier, a Supreme Court senior lawyer AMM Abed Raja filed the case against the former ruling Awami League policy maker.
Confirming the matter, the plaintiff, himself, told banglanews that the defender Latif Siddique is now in Dhaka Central Jail.
The former telecommunication minister was sent to the prison on November 25 by metropolitan magistrate Atikur rahman after surrendering to the Dhanmondi Thana on the day.
Latif Siddique was removed from his post and also from the party after his derogatory comments hurting religious sentiment at a discussion in New York on September 28.
